Lal Senaratne – Managing director

Lal has been with the Liquor Centre Group since it commenced operations in 1992 and has seen the group expand from a single store to over 235 stores nationwide. Lal has had extensive Senior management experience in New Zealand and overseas. He worked for Boots Pure Drug Co, a large multinational business firstly as the Marketing Manager in Europe based in the United Kingdom and then as the Marketing Manager in the Far East. Boots owned and operated the world’s largest retail chemist chain in over 40 countries.

In New Zealand he was with Watties for fifteen years and was Deputy Managing Director of General Foods and General Manager Administration at Watties Head Office.

Prior to joining the Liquor Centre Group he was Group General Manager Hospitality and Catering at Ceramco Corporation responsible for Australia and New Zealand. Lal has several degrees including a PHD in business.

On a personal note, Lal is an avid sports fan. He was a competitive tennis player and a B Grade Squash Player in his youth. A knee injury playing rugby saw an early end to serious tennis. However, he represented Eden Epsom in Auckland’s premier grade “Caro Bowl” tennis competition, and the B Grade Squash competition. He was also a member of the Sri-Lanka Cricket team, in the limited overs competition in Auckland. He admits to being a fanatical supporter of the All Blacks and follows them on tour whenever possible.

Andre Senaratne – Branch operations manager

After completing his university studies in Management, Marketing and Information Systems Andre joined the Liquor Centre Group as a Management trainee in 2008 and worked in all of the key activities of the Group to learn the trade. He is now fully involved in all areas of the company and his expertise in information management has enabled the Liquor Centre to take advantage of technology and social media.

He attended Kings School and Kings College in Auckland. Represented Kings at cricket and rugby and was also selected to represent Auckland Schools at rugby. He loves playing and watching sport and is a die hard Warriors fan.

Shaun Killalea – Regional Manager – Central/Wellington/South Island

Shaun has over 20 years’ experience in the liquor industry.  He worked as a Store Manager at Smugglers Kapiti, Liquorland Waikanae, Liquor King Queenstown, and from 2003 to present was the owner of two Liquor Centre outlets.  With  his extensive experience in retail liquor, and a proven track record in effectively managing liquor stores, he will bring to the position a practical and effective management style, combined with exceptional people skills.  He is a qualified scuba diver and a keen gardener.

Praveen Punjabi – Regional Manager – Waikato/BOP/South Auckland

Praveen has been in the retail liquor industry for close to 14 years.  During this period he worked for two large retail outlets both of which are members of the Liquor Centre Group.  For the past 10 years, the Liquor Centre Group has had the opporunity to work with him, as the Owner/Director of a large Liquor Centre store.  He brings to the position a “track record” of experience and success, a professional and practical approach, thinking outside the box, a preparedness to go the extra mile, and above all, a self-starter who has the necessary commitment and drive to achieve success.  His people skills are exceptional.  Praveen completed a BCom in 1998.

Vikram Singh – Regional Manager – Auckland/Northland

Vikram commenced his career as a Multistore Manager at Burger King NZ responsible for a group of stores.  This included achieving sales targets, improving profit budgets, hiring and training of staff, staff appraisals, product promotion and marketing, etc.

He then joined Shell (NZ) as Operations Manager responsible for a group of stores. This involved hiring and training staff, achieving monthly and weekly store budgets, product promotions, staff appraisals, etc.

He was then offered a position at Telecom NZ, where he had responsibilities for Branch Operations, covering training of staff, chairing monthly Store Manager’s Meetings and  achieving monthly profits and sales budgets.  He was awarded Telecom’s award for achieving 100% of Mystery Shopper Audits, and also awarded The Customers Services Award.

In 2010 he followed his passion of having his own business.  Initially he owned and managed two Liquor Centre stores. Today he owns a Liquor Spot and a Pizza shop.
